Summary You can add notes to an SD in two ways: with the notes element, which has an expansive set of formatting tools, or with the Fast Notes element, which adds several notes quickly. A note can then be converted into a task, or marked as completed: its text is struck through, but it isn't deleted. In the Edit Note panel you can embed files in a note, format its text in the WYSIWYG editor, or switch to the advanced HTML code editor for more complex edits.
Steps
Step 1
Open the SD you want to add notes to.
Step 2
Find the two note elements in the row of purple buttons above the SD's section headers. The notes element, the second button (a pencil), drops in a note with an expansive set of formatting tools. Next to it, the third button (two pages) is the Fast Notes element.
Step 3
Click the Fast Notes element and hold for a second, then drag it down onto the SD and release the mouse button where you want the notes to go. The Rapid Fire window opens.
Step 4
Type your note in the box, then press Enter to add it to the SD. Add each further note the same way; to start a new line within a note, press Shift + Enter. Each note appears in the SD as a row of its own. When you're done, click the X at the top right of the window to close it.
Converting a note into a task
Step 5
To convert a note into a task, click the tick box on the note's row, to the left of the chat bubble. This is especially useful when you jot down quick notes and later decide one should be assigned as a task.
Step 6
A Confirmation box asks you to confirm that you wish to convert the note to an Action Point. Click OK.
Step 7
The Edit Task panel slides out on the right. Update the task as needed: Task Description, Due Date, Assignee, Assignor, Parent SD and Task Status. Then click Save at the bottom left of the panel to apply your changes.
Marking a note as completed
Step 8
When you've finished with a note, you can mark it as completed. Its text is then struck through, making it easy to see what's been done, just like crossing items off a to-do list. It's a helpful way to track progress without deleting notes.
Step 9
To mark a note as completed, click the grey tick in a circle at the far right of its row.
Step 10
The note's text now has a line through it, and the note stays in the SD.
Editing a note: files and formatting
Step 11
To edit a note, hover over it and click the grey edit button that appears to the left of its text. The Edit Note panel slides out on the right.
Step 12
To attach a file to the note, drag and drop it onto the dashed upload box below the note's text, or click Browse in that box to choose it from your device.
Step 13
The file appears in the note's text box and is now embedded within the note.
Step 14
The Edit Note panel's normal view is called WYSIWYG (pronounced wizzy-wig), which stands for "What You See Is What You Get". It allows you to edit content exactly as it will appear when saved. To format text, first highlight the text you'd like to format.
Step 15
Then use the formatting buttons across the top of the panel: Bold, Italics, Underline, Strikethrough, text colour, text alignment, bullet points, numbered points, and indent/outdent.
Step 16
The last button in that row, the code button (two angle brackets), toggles the advanced HTML code editor. If you're comfortable with coding, it's a powerful tool for making more advanced edits directly in HTML.
Step 17
You know you're in the code editor when the text box shows the note's HTML code and two short diagonal lines appear in its bottom right corner.
Step 18
Click the code button again to get back to the WYSIWYG view, then click Save at the bottom left of the panel.
