Summary SDs are linked like a family tree: an SD can sit under a parent SD and have child SDs under it. PaT calls this ancestry. You can move an SD to a new parent from its SD Settings panel: choose the new parent in Parent Strategy Document and click Update. The SD then appears in its new parent, marked with two question marks until it is given a position. Only the SD owner or the highest ranking PaT System Administrator can do this.
Note. Linking child SDs to parent SDs is a powerful feature that PaT calls ancestry. SD ancestry is a permission based security framework. It controls which SDs members can access, based on whether they have been invited to an SD, and what rights they have within each SD, based on their membership status (Author or Guest). It works like a family tree. At the highest levels, members can go into any area of the SD Map and access anything; their membership status in each SD decides whether they can edit or only view. Everywhere else in the organisation, members are given or denied access by a combination of their position in the family tree and the SDs they have been invited to, and again their membership status in each SD decides whether they can edit or view. The SD Security Settings module explains how the security framework works.
Steps
Step 1
Open the SD you want to move to a new parent.
Step 2
Click SD Settings, the first of the grey buttons under the row of purple buttons, just left of Advanced. The SD Settings panel opens on the left of the screen. Only the SD owner or the highest ranking PaT System Administrator can assign an SD to a new parent.
Step 3
Click the Parent Strategy Document drop-down list, below Email Correspondence Filter, and select the name of the SD you want as the new parent. The list shows all the SDs you have been invited to. If the SD you're looking for isn't on the list, you haven't been invited to it.
Step 4
Click Update, the purple button at the bottom of the panel, to save your change. The SD now appears at the top of the parent SD you selected, with two question marks in front of its name. The question marks show that the SD has just arrived in the parent SD and has not yet been given a position in it. Once you move the SD into position, the question marks disappear.
